one’s family or ethnic descent.
I am of Puerto Rican, and Native American decent.
My mother is from Puerto Rico, speaks Spanish beautifully and cooks some amazing food. Aside from my appearance, I know nothing (Jon Snow) about my heritage. I have visited my large Hispanic family numerous times at the island (the term my mom uses to reference her homeland) and have felt what it is like to have grown up with the love and the liveliness of a large Hispanic family. I have visited in times of festivals and absolutely love that practically everyday the sky opens up and downpours for minutes and the sun is back out ready to play. One thing I do have to get used to is the lizard population. Lizards roam free much like gnats in the US, and I the initial shock of being in the shower and a tiny lizard scuttles across the wall, is not lost on me.
I have read that Ancestry.com is a great resource. I cannot wait to dive into this area and find out more about myself.
